Jake Schmidt is an associate with Foulston’s litigation practice group in the firm’s Kansas City office. He assists clients in a broad range of litigation matters, including insurance defense and commercial disputes.
Jake received his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law, where he graduated first in his class. During law school, Jake served as an Articles Editor for the Kansas Law Review and was a member of the Moot Court Council. Prior to joining Foulston, Jake served as a judicial law clerk for Hon. Eric F. Melgren at the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas in Wichita and a judicial extern for Hon. Holly L. Teeter at the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas in Topeka.
During his time as a law clerk, Jake received a behind-the-scenes look into the operations and processes of the federal district court. He worked on cases at all stages, from the filing of a complaint to resolution by a jury trial. Jake left his clerkship having gained experience in a wide variety of different legal practice areas, including contract disputes, personal injury, and Constitutional and tort claims against municipalities and counties.
Outside the office, Jake enjoys almost anything that takes place outdoors. His favorite activities are pickleball, sand volleyball, and hiking.
