Former K-State Government Relations Chief Sue Peterson Joins Foulston Siefkin LLP Government Affairs and Public Policy Team

December 17, 2024

TOPEKA, Kan. – Susan (Sue) Peterson, PhD, who most recently led government relations for Kansas State University, is the newest addition to Foulston Siefkin LLP’s government affairs team. This powerhouse advocate brings nearly 34 years of experience from K-State to Foulston, as well as previous staff experience in the Kansas Legislature, the Kansas governor’s office, and a broad network of relationships across the state.

At K-State, Sue directed all state, federal, and community relations and served as the University liaison to the Kansas Legislature, governor’s office, state executive branch agencies, and the Kansas Congressional delegation. During her tenure, Sue was critical in passing legislation to allocate more than $600 million and 38 acres of land to the Department of Homeland Security’s National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility in Manhattan. She also collaborated with the higher education community to pass the Kansas Economic Growth Act, which launched the Kansas Bioscience Authority, and spearheaded the University’s effort to enact the State Educational Institution Long-Term Infrastructure Maintenance Program, which provided $90 million for deferred maintenance at state universities.

Throughout her career, Sue’s leadership and knowledge have been recognized with multiple honors from organizations including the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities. She earned a Bachelor of Science in political science from Kansas State University, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas, and a Doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Kansas State University. At Foulston, she joins government affairs and public policy practice leader C. Edward Watson, II, government affairs consultant Eric Sexton, PhD, and Foulston partner Jim Rankin. The team works with clients to develop legislative strategy and make connections with the Kansas Legislature, government agencies, and elected officials to further clients’ policy goals.
