Jake Schmidt is an associate with Foulston’s litigation practice group in the firm’s Kansas City office. He assists clients in a broad range of litigation matters, including commercial disputes and government liability.
In his litigation practice, Jake brings an array of experience involving commercial disputes. He first-chaired a commercial lease breach and eviction bench trial, which involved a complex dispute related to a purchase option, and was part of a Foulston team that won summary judgment in favor of a university client in a putative class action. Jake works to both defend and prosecute high-profile class actions lawsuits in Kansas federal court.
Jake received his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law, where he graduated first in his class. During law school, Jake served as an Articles Editor for the Kansas Law Review and was a member of the Moot Court Council. Prior to joining Foulston, Jake served as a judicial law clerk for Hon. Eric F. Melgren at the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas in Wichita and a judicial extern for Hon. Holly L. Teeter at the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas in Topeka. Through these positions, Jake earned a behind-the-scenes look into the operations and processes of the federal district court. He worked on cases at all stages, from the filing of a complaint to resolution by a jury trial and left his clerkship having gained experience in a wide variety of different legal practice areas.
Outside the office, Jake enjoys spending time with his wife. They are both very active and enjoy spending weekends hiking and playing sand volleyball.
