New “Stop Human Trafficking” Poster Requirements in Missouri
February 19, 2019
In 2018, the Missouri House of Representatives enacted Mo. Rev. Stat. § 595.120 to combat human trafficking by requiring certain businesses to post (before March 1, 2019) an anti-sex trafficking poster containing resources to assist human trafficking victims. The Missouri Department of Public Safety released an 8 ½ x 11-inch poster headlined “STOP HUMAN TRAFFICKING” which includes the toll-free hotline of the National Human Trafficking Resource Center for anyone who is being trafficked or who has witnessed someone being trafficked. According to the law, the Missouri “Stop Human Trafficking” poster should be displayed in a conspicuous place in or near the bathrooms or near the entrance of each of the following healthcare establishments:
- Emergency rooms within general acute care hospitals;
- Urgent care centers;
- Women’s health centers;
- Abortion facilities;
- Family planning clinics;
- Maternity homes; and
- Pregnancy resource centers.
Any owner or operator of an establishment required to put up the poster who fails to comply will receive a written warning for the first violation and may be guilty of an infraction for any subsequent violations.
The Missouri Department of Public Safety created a web page for establishments to download a poster containing the required information, or the poster can be directly accessed at: https://dps.mo.gov/human-trafficking/pdf/stop-human-trafficking-poster.pdf.
